Gone to XU to have my son Matt assessed for pre-school.
Age-wise, Matt can be admitted to K1 already since he’ll be four years and 7 months old in June, and that’s the lower limit age requirement for K1 at XU. Apart from that, I have no idea what the assessment criteria would be.
When we got there, I inquired re: assessment/exam. And I was a bit surprised to learn that part of the assessment would be an hour examination in written form. Intellectually, I have confidence in my son but I know for a fact that his writing skill is far from good.
I mean, he’s still starting to learn how to write!
So while waiting for Matt to finish taking the exam, I was a bundle of nerves. And more so (multiplied a hundred times!), when he was done and I was called in to receive the examiner’s feedback.
Short of the story: Matt passed the exam. Moreover, it was so pleasing to hear the examiner say that Matt is very intelligent. As a mother I believe my son is intelligent, but when you hear others say it, that’s like “oh wow!”
